Unified Studies started in Southern Utah in 1988 when a few teachers and a principal put their heads together to build a way for students to better understand and appreciate this unique place we call home. With the support from Rob Goulding, Southern Utah's version of "Unified Studies" was created by Steve Christensen, David Cullimore, & Ron Quilter. Students visit the "outdoor classroom" to learn about nature through the unified studies (hence the name) of Biology, Ecology, Geology, History, Art and more. Over the decades many great contributions have been made by great educators like Chris Homer, Phil Moore & Chris Cannon to grow and develop Unified Studies. Three decades later, Unified Studies is as relevant as ever with talented advisers in two Washington County schools. At this 30 year point, Mark Christensen, Marcus Homer & Dustin Dayley are guiding the Hurricane program while Ron Quilter, Ben Callahan & Taylor Robinson are guiding at Desert Hills. Plans are in the works to add another local high school to the program soon.
